Hi everyone,

I want to beam on a 20-yard warp in 140/2 silk.  I have a sectional beam and an AVL warping wheel, but I could also remove the sectional dividers and treat it as a plain beam, using a trapeze to get the tension even.

Which would you recommend I use?  I used the warping wheel on a 20-yard warp of 60/2 silk earlier and had major tension problems, but I think that was user error rather than a problem with the warping wheel.  Still, I'm a bit leery of running into the same problem later.

Thoughts?

Considering the expense of using so much silk, plain beaming under good tension is probably the best way to go. Make your chains so that they have no more than 300-400 threads - the silk should glide on the beam and held with even tension would throw fewer issues than winding each small section by itself with slippery thread.
