I hope folks don't mind me creating the thread. It is the first of March and I am on a snow day! A snow day in March! Are you having winter weather?  Do you weave more in the winter or less? Most importantly what are you weaving this month?!

I was home sick yesterday so not on the computer.  We are having springish weather. The temps have been all over the place for the past month or so and the last few days have been wet but not cold. . . It is wreaing havoc on everyone's allergies. I have been spinning and knitting but no weaving lately

Erica J

I got 2 snow days in a row! I can not believe it!

Oli J and I spent much of today working on perfecting the shed on my current drawloom project. It has been languishing for a while and I feel like I finally have the brain power to resolve the issues, with some help from our fellow Weavolutionaries. :)

A lot of snow. And wind. And more snow.

I ran the dishwasher in case we lose power. We'll have clean cereal bowls.

I would be getting more weaving done if I could remember where we out the space heater. I think I took it into work, because my room at work is cold on a regular basis. Whereas the studio rarely gets chilly. Ahh well I still did far more weaving with 2 extra days off worj.than I would have otherwise!

And the snow is gone. However, Oli J and I have finished troubleshooting my drawloom issues! I have woven 3 pattern rows on the test pattern ( 3 of 28). I have also reached 60" (of 180") on my herringbone weaving! Hopefully, I can weave about 30" per weekend on the herringbone and a few test pattern rows per weekend. I've got yards and yards of damask to go, once I finalize the pattern.

and the power co. says full restoration by Tuesday-Wednesday, just in time for another storm's arrival. No school again today because roads are closed and lines are dangling in many places. Thankfully, we have power AND clean bowls.

your priorities right Sally - bowls are a must. I started keeping some paper plates, bowls, plasticware, etc. in the pantry for when the power goes out. Just in case! Erica, sound like you had a very productive snow break. Well done!

Joanne Hall was here this past week doing a workshop out at Fiber Crafts in Elm Mott. She did band weaving and Swedish art weaves. I wasn't able to take the class but did go out to see how everyone was doing. And then was able to have dinner with her last night. I am counting that as weaving related!

Erica J

Sally, glad to hear you have power and bowls! I hope everyone else there is OK. Endorph that is definitely weaving related! I hope you go to chat with JoaAnne, she is such an interesting person!

Here is my herringbone so far:

I have been working on the patter draft for my damask weaving. I've woven 2 test patterns so far. I am now weaving test #3. I'm trying to get the central motif as close to an extant medieval textile as possible.

I am looking forward to seeing what you finally land on for your damask. Fascinating.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, we celebrated STEAM with a state-wide maker's day event at libraries and museums.

When Chewbacca walked into our location, I knew I had to get a photo of him at the loom! (No shuttle needed, he brings his own fiber!)

Yay, fun at the drawloom, Erica! So glad it's working for you! I've been back to the drawloom after finishing the fan reed project. Well, taking it off the loom. Still needs to be wet finished.

I have the drawloom set up for 4 shaft broken twill so I can do damask and opphamta on the same warp. Right now, working on opphamta. Some pillow cases and then longer pieces. Then moving units around for the damask pattern.

Erica J

That looks great Shawn! Oli and I did a lot of troubleshooting on my drawloom set up. While weaving my third test pattern last night, I discovered about 2 warp threads had broken! I'll have to sort those out this week and try to figure out why they're breaking.

A Large Fiber Estate Sale will be happening in Iselin, New Jersey, on Sunday, March 25, 9-5.

PM me with your email if you want more information.

Thanks, Erica! Broken threads on a double harness loom are no fun. Sigh. Glad you're having fun! Sometimes I've noticed I miss the heddle hole or twist it around and puts tress on them. You would think that with all the handling they would be hard to miss. Sigh.

Been out of the forum for a very long time.  Wove some clothing fabric last year and am weaving a rag rug for the first time this year.  Also working on helping Oxford Historical Society in Oxford CT get their barn loom up and running.  So, I have been weaving..just out of computer shot of late. Did manage to make a vest for me out of the clothing fabric and already have plans for more.

A big thanks to all who came on Sunday to help "destash" this fiber estate. As things cleared out, we were able to locate and unload more books and items that were in cabinets and other storage areas. So there are still oodles of items left!

The family is holding a second (and final) sale on April 7 at the same location:#16 Jade Place, Iselin, NJ, as the house has been sold. The sale coordinator for the fiber part of the estate is listed on the project page here at Weavo, along with updated photos from the end of the day on Sunday, so you can view virtually to see if you want to make the trip.

The Glimakra is still for sale. Now that the room has been cleaned out, it might be easier to view and test drive while still set up. (The sale coordinator can provide detailed photos by request.)
