I have now purchased my floor loom.  I got a really good deal ($500.00) which included the bench and 2 boat shuttles and a warping board.  It is a 4 harness, 6 treadle Gilmore in perfect shape.  Although I attempted to try and warp it up last night, I hate to report I failed.   Although I failed; I'm a warrior and will get through this cycle.  I have a new set of fresh eyes and after reading the Pattern Weaving by Rabbit Goody, I was able to read and see where I made my mistakes last night.

My problem was figuring out how to use the warp that I completed on the warp board and transfer to the reed/heddles.  Now that I have seen the error or my ways, I will attempt to warp this baby this evening.

I am hoping that I can figure it all out as I did the RH.  I believe I can; but I will be submitting questions when I get confused.

Happy Weaving

Here's a pic of my "Monster".   I call it that because the owner's husband called it Monster when I picked it up and it was said in a good way.  Also, it will be cranking out some Monster projects!  Sorry pictures are side views.

I kept timing out and I guess it took too many times even though error message was received.

Congatulations on actively pursuing your dream. So glad you were able to get a good bargain. What will your first weaving be?

My first project will be a scarf once I  learn how to warp it.  I am going by Madelyn van definitely Hoogt'so DVD Warp without worrying, Warping your loom.

Good Morning,

I am happy to report that I was able to warp my Monster last night after 2a.m  If I told you the whole story from Tuesday evening until last night, it would be a chapter in a book.

Short story:  I am happily weaving on my Monster.  I mastered the warp board and now know how to warp front to back.  I started out back to front, but did not feel comfortable with all the stuff you needed to warp it that way.  So for now, I am a front to back warper.

I will post pics once I complete a project.  I will also write down my calculations and submit.  Yes, I'm learning the sett, the epi, dpi as well as pattern reading.

I really do believe I finally found my calling after 50 something years.  Wow!

Congratulations! I'm very excited that you are weaving on monster now! I can't wait to see what you are weaving!!!

My first loom project will be a scarf made of tencel 8/2 yarn.  I am going to begin the process after work today.  I will do the math and make sure to include inches for the fringe, take up, loom waste, etc.   See, I'm learning.

Never thought that I would teach myself to weave; but apparently, I have.  I'm still going to take a class next month for floor loom weaving.  Then, I will take another class for Rigid Heddle Weaving so that I am on point for both of my looms.

I will be posting pics Erica and Thank you for always being supportive and kind.

Happy Weaving!

Woo Hoo!  You got a Gilmore!  How great for you!  You're on your way CB!

And at a great price, too! Gilmores are very highly regarded.

And I didn't think you were nearly that old. Either that's a young relation, an old picture, or you're remarkably well-preserved!

In addition to the books, I'd recommend Janet Dawson's Floor Loom class on Craftsy. It's $39.99, but frequently offered for half price. Very clear instructions, and she covers a lot of basic weaving material.

Happy Weaving!

I believe I am well reserved.  I am now 54 and that picture was taken last summer at 53.

I've been a little under the weather the last 4 weeks.  Just getting better and will be weaving again very shortly.

".....And I didn't think you were nearly that old......"
Um.....54 is not 'old'.  I used to think it was, then I passed it up! It's now 'experienced middle aged'.   ;-)
