Is there any downside to weaving with a really long dobby chain, any special precautions to take?  I am looking at a draft that probably requires 60-80 dobby bars.  I am guessing they will hit the floor.  do they tend to tangle or do things go pretty smooth? the draft I am considering uses tabby so I have to use a bar for every other pic.

thanks

Yes, the down side is the weight of the chain.  Just be careful when advancing and make sure that the chain doesn't hang up on itself.  My dh built me a gizmo that allowed me to run very long chains (140 or so, all the lags I had) without any difficulty - until I switched over to a computer control.  :)

cheers,

Add a heavy rolling pin at the bottom of the lag loop which will help stop jams.  60 isnt that many - usually 100+ is when it becomes an issue.  Avl sells a dobby chain weight which looks like a giant bobbin (hence the rolling pin idea).
