About me

I am a 58 yr old woman who has owned a HD4 for almost 13 years. However, actual weave time = about 1 year. So, when I was laid-off 16 months ago, I decided that I wanted to spend some time getting to know my loom on a much deeper level. I have taken 2-3 beginning weaving classes from Deborah Jarchow - and I think I have come a long way. I love Deb's low key style. I met Susie Meach, and consequently became enthrawled with spinning, Susie has been very generious with her knowledge and guidence. These are my two "new" obsessions.

In our house I also discovered that my husband was taught to knit as a child by his grandmother (honest, in 26 years together I never knew this!) After watching me knit up a storm he is knitting again, and now he is designing his own hats and learning to knit socks. Due to the fact that I fell in love with spinning and exposed him to all things fibery, and his honest curious nature, he has also taken up spindling - something that he is very good at! I am so proud of him!

I had the good fortune to buy a really nice old loom (my 2nd loom) from a local weaving studio. It was given to them so we don't really know much about it. It's a Counterbalance loom and it is my avitar and I call her BIG Red. I have to do a bit of work on her but when that's done I hope to find someone who can help me get to know her.

I live in Southern California with my husband and 4 dogs. We do Agility. I also do beadwork, some sewing, knit, learning tapestry crochet, belong to my local Weaving and Spinning Guild (I am the Historian for the Guild, a position that is very new to me) and belong to a team in our church bowling league, however, I do not claim to know how to bowl !! :o)
