Well, I've just this evening completed putting all the heddles on the loom. One thousand two hundred heddles takes a long time to get them on JUUUUUUST right, dontcha know. These were just in big bunches stuffed inside plastic grocery bags, all turned different directions, etc. Some were a bit dirty, so that involved a bit of touch up with steel wool. They're all in really nice shape now with a touch of Howards on them for shine and protection.
There are two different styles of inserted eye heddles.
One is the common one that you see on most websites now. I have 400 of these. Gowdey Reed sells this same style for $15/100 in case anybody is looking for more heddles. This is a fantastic price. http://www.gowdeyreed.com/handloom_heddl...
The other style must be older because I've not run across it anyhere on the net. It is more of a hexagon shape with the eye being a true oblong rather than oval. I have 800 of these.
Now, am I the only one who's OCD tendencies are going crazy right now? LOL I really, really, really want them to be all the same (like the ones from Gowdey), but I keep telling myself that common sense should prevail and not waste the money to buy more.
BUT!, if anybody happens to have the hexagon style and wants more of them, I could sell these to you and then I could get the other style. :o) PPPPPLLLLLLUUUUUUEASE!! (saying it like Roger Rabbit)
Also, I've been crawling on the floor all evening getting the treadles tied up. What a comedy of errors that was! By the time I got to the 14th treadle, I had it down.
I've chosen a 12 harness pattern that Bonnie Inouye worked up for me that is a point twill. (She was adapting a 16H pattern that I'm in love with to a 12H so that I could sort of weave it.) Here's a link to the draft: http://www.flickr.com/photos/andsewforth...
The aprons still aren't here, and I really wanted those to be on the loom for the pics, but....
So you can see that I've been busy getting her all gussied up. One thing is for sure, doing a restoration on this has provided me with a thorough understanding of how the loom works. I'm sure that will be a huge help when troubleshooting issues in the first project.
LOL, Debbi, I don't even have the harnesses all put back in it yet. (vbg) And I have to arrange things so that it looks JUST right.....
(In other words, I need to get some of the schtuff out of the room so that ya'll can't see my clutter!)
I was telling DH that I sure hope the pics come out good because you guys are all expecting to see a miracle. lol He said, "Well, the only thing you haven't done is have the harnesses gold-plated!" lol I scoffed at him and said, "Are you crazy.....that would look horrible. They need to be silver plated!"
But seriously, wouldn't that be cool? or chrome plated?
