The size of the shutte allows is to easily go in and out of the warp and
for several shuttles to fit on the web. Below is a link to a video showing their use.
Organzine (sorry for the misspelling) is a reeled silk, as is tram silk, that has more twist. I don't see any listed on Lunatic Fringe Yarn's site (in general reeled silk is hard to come by in the US). Habu carries it (I haven't tried it myself).
LFY does have spun silk in 60/2 and 140/2 which you could use. I used 60/2, from ColourMart, as the warp when I wove with LFY's 6-ply tram silk.
Are you using their tram silk? Tram silk is traditionally used as weft, it has little twist (which results in a shinny yarn), organize, which has a more twist, is what is traditionally used for warp.
The lack of twist is what is likely causing it to catch. I've used their tram silk as weft, and been very happy with it, but not as warp.
