One caveat - when using a ribbon, do not roll it into the cloth on the beam but let it hang loose. :)
I have several 'ribbons' of various standard lengths for towels, scarves, shawls. I tape the end so they don't ravel and mark the length on the tape so I can easily find the correct length for the project at hand.
