Flämmchen band
Tablet woven band, pattern found on Babette's Webseite http://www.b-oberholz.de/editor/index.php. 12 cards, continuous warp method (orange in AB, blue-violet in CD). Finished size 0.5" (1.25 cm) by 22" (56 cm), including fring. 19" (48.5cm) woven length. My second tablet woven band.
Very difficult to photograph these strongly contrasting colors accurately, but it's a very striking band. There are some variations on this flame pattern on Babette's site.
One or two wonky areas- the crochet cotton size 10 has a pretty hard twist, and the right side where the S-Z twist goes against it's grain it tended to kink up a bit- I have one or two loose loops at the beginning before I started to be very careful about pulling the weft taut on the next shed to lock into place.
Hiding the stripes in warp float/pick ups!
I have been working hard at trying different warp face structures. Though I have done alot of different warp float projects...this now gives me the freedom of not having stripes in the background. Now that I have this under my belt, along with double wv and dbl wft dbl wv...I can do solid background (dbl wv), striped background and spotted background (warp floats/pick ups. I have moved from the Gilmore Wave to the backstrap so that I can move into wider pieces. Lots of learning curve going on! Please see my blog if you would like to know more.
Pink perle, dark gray and silver silk.
From
a 7 ft. warp and 148 warp threads, I had 78 in. total with waste. I
got 59 in. (4 ft. 11 in.) woven web. It is 3 3/4 in wide. With fringe
it is 70 in. total. I am very happy with the way it turned out. The
only thing wrong is that it is slightly curved...I seem to have this in
my work at times. Always to the same side....hmmmmm. Maybe something
to do with being right handed, or the tension...maybe even both. Since
it is to be an addition to the poncho I don't think it will be a
problem. It might even relax out of it after a period of time.
Crystal's Pistal's Christmas scarf!
My daughter had a very specific idea about what she wanted out of her scarf. I knitted her on once before and she loves it, but wanted some things different. She wanted purple, she wanted stiffer so it held it shape and she wanted it to wrap several times around her neck.
I think I nailed it. I can't wait for her to see this.
My second attempt at One weft double weave.
I finally succeeded in one weft double weave! I got all of my information for the very informative blog on Backstrap weaving by Laverne Waddington.
I discovered her on Weavolution and Weavezine. Then I stumbled on her information again on Ravelry.
All three of these are full of great information on weaving and fiber
arts in general. The really great thing is the information is free for
the offering.
One
weft double weave allows the weaver to have one color on one side and
another on the back side. It also provides for the weaver to have
design on the front that is the reverse color on the back. I am still
trying to get the basic weave down so mine has no design...yet. It
produces a very thick and sturdy band. I think for myself I will use
finer threads next time and produce a finer band. I can see where this
would be great for dog collars, leashes, mug rugs, hot pads and even
belts. It is a labor intensive weave, which in my case made for time
consuming as well. We all know though, that weaving in general is not a
'fast' form of art. This weave actually forms kind of a tube.
My favorite so far!
I have found a purpose for my practice inkle bands. I kept this set for myself. The others are for sale.
My Pandula Band!
I still don't seem to be able to do my floats without a striped background ;-{, but I like this one quite well with the stripes.
I am calling it my "Pandula" band. No two flowers are alike. By the way, a "Pandula" is a flower which lives only in ones imagination.
I believe my warp is somewhere around 7ft, hard not to make any two alike. I also limited my design area to the center stripe. They seem to show up more this way. Next time I will use a wider design area.
Blue is one of my favorite colors and I am very smitten with this piece. It is 1 3/4 in wide and has 100 thread count. I guess that is about 25 EPI. Hope you like it.
Another practice band on the Mini Wave!
This warp gave me fits, as I didn't realize that the teal yarn was hemp until I caught the smell of it. It was very very sticky. I am not sure of the thread count as I made the warp too wide for the loom itself. I forgot to count the wraps with double threads as 2. So lots of weirdness in it. As for the design, I am just playing around to see what I can get.
For my next project I think I am going to try Laverne's one weft double weave.
