New kitchen, new rug
Once we finished the remodeling of our kitchen, my friend wanted a new rug for in front of the sink. I had the rug warp on the loom so weaving the rug was fast and easy. It's the first rug on my new-to-me 30 year old Glimakra Standard and it was great fun. My friend, David, is thrilled with the results and so am I.
Little Blocks Rep Rugs - Warp #69
This is my "Little Blocks" design previously woven as towels (see warps #66-68) translated into rep weave for rugs. Nice rugs but I won't be weaving carpet warp with this dense a sett again.
Rags in two of these rugs are recycled materials from a previously woven and worn out rag rug. The rags from that rug went into one rug, the one you see here in front of my kitchen sink and dishwasher. I like really long rugs that catch the drips from the sink and both sides of the dishwasher. For another rug I knotted the old warp ends together and used them double to knit I-Cord for the "rag" filler. I-Cord is very time consuming but makes nice rugs.
This 9 yard warp yielded four nice rugs.
Bright Rep Rugs - Warp #62
This is the third rep rug warp in my "stripes" series. My daughter requested a brightly colored rug for my little toddler granddaughter. This is the result. Perhaps it will soon help Evie learn her colors.
Black, grey and tan rep rugs - Warp #60
The first of a series of three rug warps in rep stripes. This one is warped in black, ecru, tan, two shades of grey and brown.
Twining
Guildmate Jerri Shankler introduced this technique to our guild. Bobbie Irwin is the originator with two books about twining in publication.
I am currently testing my theory that two yards of two contrasting fabrics will give you 3-4 hot pad samples.
Bobbie's books are great for getting design ideas. You can also do this technique on a regular loom, off-loom, even in a circular motif.
Sally
rag rugs
I cut up Grandmother's large colletion of Acrylic double knit pants from the '60s..70's? They wove up nicely. My first project of this sort. They are not suqre, the edges a bit ragged. but that's okay, goes with rags! anyway, i'm pleased with them. They will grace my kitchen floor and remind me of Grandmother.
Twill Rag Rugs
I have done a few rugs in these twill patterns lately. Sold 2 and gave one for a wedding present last month. I have a few more on the loom now that need to be cut off and hemmed.
I *bubble* my rag weft quite a large loop of fabric for each shed, so there is no draw-in or change in width of the rug. The first rug I died fringes, but the next four I did hemmable edges instead.
