Inkle felt scissors pouch
Our 14-hour drive each way over Thanksgiving holidays gave me ample inkle weaving time in the car. I wove one long band going, and another one coming home.
I knotted the ends and threw the two woven wool bands into the wash with a pair of blue jeans, then laid them to dry on a towel. There was no give or stretch across the weft, but I was able to pull and stretch the length a few inches. Then I brushed them thoroughly, which improved them greatly, as it removed a lot of stray "fur."
I used a floral printed polyester satin ribbon as lining, and stitched a length of the band into a small scissors pouch. I will be able to make several of the scissors pouches as gifts for special people.
Inkle Chokers With Crochet Lace
I designed these for our guild's annual sale last year, and really enjoyed combining the processes. I learned a great deal about finishing, and about lace! Originally I gave the chokers a snap closure but that really doesn't work for every neck size, so am planning to improve the ones I have left by making them adjustable, and I had a thought that it would be clever to make the pendants so that they can be clipped on or the choker worn alone. Thanks for looking!
Inky's August Attire
Inspired by one of Laverne's bands posted a while back, I decided to see if I could draft my own version. This one is WAYYYYY easier to treadle than my previous "mudcloth," and I am enjoying weaving while traveling very much. (I don't think this one will take me as long to finish, either!)
I finally get to use my weavings as something to wear!
My friend Dana is a seamstress and I taught her to weave tapestry, spin and backstrap weave. I wanted a keepsake of our time together (as I am returning to FL) so I came up with the design, with Doni Delis bag in mind and she picked the lining and assembled the tote. She even put a zipper in it for me, along with plenty of pockets. You can even see a cell phone pocket on the inside of the strap! The one with the little lady figure.
I am going to miss my friend alot. This bag will be very special to me.
Inkle Pattern
This is what I use to design my inkle bands.
Fairisle inkle band
the basic draft from my fairisle inkle band.
celtic knot band
Made using a pattern i found online. The plan is to trim a replica of an iron age shirt for my dad when I get around to making it.
fairisle inkle band
my first attempt at a complicated pick up pattern. Had to give up at 6 inches when my brain melted
Pink perle, dark gray and silver silk.
From
a 7 ft. warp and 148 warp threads, I had 78 in. total with waste. I
got 59 in. (4 ft. 11 in.) woven web. It is 3 3/4 in wide. With fringe
it is 70 in. total. I am very happy with the way it turned out. The
only thing wrong is that it is slightly curved...I seem to have this in
my work at times. Always to the same side....hmmmmm. Maybe something
to do with being right handed, or the tension...maybe even both. Since
it is to be an addition to the poncho I don't think it will be a
problem. It might even relax out of it after a period of time.
More inklings
The darker belt was woven in 3/2 cotton and has a nice sturdy feel about it.
The red/gold belt is woven with 5/2 cotton. This one was done for a friend who provided the belt hardware. She likes to wear her belts loosely so the lighter cotton works well. She also picked out the colors she wanted.
Both of these belts are a wee bit wider than 1 inch.
