Hazel Rose Multi-Loom Squares (Weave-Its)
I confess to being one of the "lemmings" who saw the Piecework article and just had to have one of these little looms! :) It is really fun. I'm planning to use these first squares to make a patchwork-type little lap blanket out of leftover knitting yarn. Then, once I have the hang of it a little better, I'd like to try a shawl out of some nice silk or alpaca (maybe in one of those "windowpane" designs other people are doing - that's really nice).
Baby Blanket
I wove 36 six inch squares on the 6" Multi Loom and crocheted them together. I finished the blanket in the washer on gentle and in the drier until just damp, then finished drying it on the bed to 'block'. It turned out well, soft and a little fluffy, & did not shrink. More info on my blog.
Weavette explorations 1
Woven with some 4ply finger weight wool yarn I have in my stash. Has a lovely feel to it and looks quite fine when it's off the loom. Not entirely sure as yet of what to make with it. Maybe a shawl,.. any ideas?
Weavette 2
The only difference between this one and "Weavette 1" is that I have doubled the yarn up for the whole thing. Certainly has made it firmer than the other but and bit of a pain when it comes to the weaving bit.
Picture to come in a bit.
Weavette 1
Trying out my new little Weavette whilst creating some mats for my sister's new home. This one I have done with single warp & weft. It's a little sparse, might try to see if I can shrink it a little with boiling water. Could also see if it's possible to encase it somehow. Would look quite pretty and they'd only need a wipe then. :D
Weavette Bag
This bag was created from 9 squares from my 4x4 weavette crocheted together with gold handspun (spun by me).
Silk/alpaca throw
I wove to my yarn. It would have been nice a little bigger but this is all I had. It was spun by my sister and is going to be her xmas present. I am happy with it.
Deb Scarf
This is what happens when you combine yarn samples from a Deb Menz Plying with Color workshop and Weavettes. One day this will be a very colorful modular scarf. The squares are woven, and now it is onto the joining. Not my favorite part. Believe it or not, all of the squares have a single that is shared. It was from a multicolored painted roving, but believe me, half of the yarn of every square is shared with every other square. The color variations come from simply plying that shared single with all kinds of wonderful other colors. Sometimes it accentuated the common single, sometimes it overwhelmed it. Each time was a great surprise though. I really love how different each and every square looks. Even the ones from the same yarn sample can look very different depending on where the roving color variations meshed.
hazel rose cardigan
18 Januari 2010.
I simply forgot all about my halelrose loom, and I am sorry to say, about weavolution too. But times are changing and so am I. (hopefully). I will continue this project, give it a more prominent place in my everyday life. (which means get it out of the drawer) I made a photo of my towels (but the camera is in bad shape) And be more active at weavolution.
No these are nog my new years intentions, just wanting to do things this way.
Marion.
I got the quilters looms 7' from my mother and mother inlaw for my birhtday. Aren't they fantastic mums? And as I have a lot of Alpaca yarn from Drops in my stash I found use for it. I weave with 3 threads together and get a nice sturdy but suple cloth. I weave blocks with the green yarn and blocks with all three colours.
