purple scarf with sock yarn variegated long fringe
This one was a last minute Christmas gift for my daughter. She likes long untwisted fringe, but I still used hemstitching and knots. I like the way the colors pop out through the purple and add excitement to the fringe. This scarf was extra long for wrapping.
For this scarf, I was in such a hurry that I didn't want to flip my harp over to use the built in warping board. Instead, I clamped a two-dowel napkin holder to a table, and used one peg on my loom at the other side of the room to begin warping. I walked back and forth, stretching out a little over 100 inches and making the cross on the two dowels. It worked, and was fast!
Weave Now Class - Project Scarf
My project scarf from Amelia's Weave Now rigid heddle class. I used a 75% merino, 25% nylon sock yarn; solid turquoise for the warp and heathered blue-gray for the weft. Partial list of things learned from Amelia's class: 1) use sock weight yarn rather than worsted weight with my 8-dent heddle for a more supple cloth 2) double warp threads at selvedges to improve uniformity 3) method for simple tied fringe that eliminates need for hemstitching 4) weaving on loom should resemble window-screen (study the size and shape of the little squares of open space between the threads as you weave).
After machine wet-finishing and pressing, my scarf came out with a nice drape. I was very happy with its soft feel.
Thanks Amelia and Claudia.

Harmony Scarf
This scarf had only 240 yards of weft and it wasn't nearly enough to make the scarf the length I intended (72"). This scarf also ended up as plainweave because the herringbone twill I originally intended was getting lost and the finished weaving was turning into a weft-faced design.
Notes for next time:
1. Double the weft.
2. Use a wider sett and allow for more "shrinkage" (this is sock yarn--about 25% nylon) and doesn't shrink, but does puff back up to its unblocked state when wet-finished).
One -Shuttle Ikat
I orginally planned to use the self patterning sock yarn for the warp and the grey as the weft but after seeing the One-Shuttle Ikat scarf kit at The Yarn Barn I decided to reverse the yarns and see what happens.
Chrissie's Christmas scarf
I'm having trouble figuring out how to input yarn when I post a project. Anyway, I used Marathon Socks North Pole sock yarn in the Victoriana colorway. It has a metallic thread that gives it a little bit of sparkle but nothing over the top. I needed a quick project for a Christmas gift that has to be sent to England. The answer was a a sock yarn scarf woven on a RH loom!
Ella-Rae Scarf
3 shaft twill woven on a rigid heddle loom. I used Ella-rae sock yarn in the warp and a grey alpaca for weft-- I decided to use the 3 shaft twill because I really wanted the warp to show be shown off, it's such a pretty yarn, and would have gotten lost in plain weave. As it turns out I'm now enamoured with 3 shaft twills, I love how the two sides are so different, and also that it's such an ancient weave structure. And it wasn't that hard to do with 2 heddles.
garden scarf
my first of - hopefully many more - stash reduction projects. Simple RH weaving, plain weave, let the colour talk project. I start to like the end with the triangle. Will try that some more.
