ArtPrize Bits and Bobs Fiber Art Entry
Bits and Bobs is a fiber clothing creation that developed from all the bits and bobs from my hand spinner and weaver stash. I wanted to create something that was not only practical but also pleasing to the senses. This is very Tactile with texture and softness and very Visual with lots of color.I hand spun all sorts of bits and bobs of different types of fiber in various colors and thicknesses to achieve yarn that is truly unique. That was woven into a jacket, wrap skirt similiar to a kilt, and matching bag. My fiber was predominately Merino, Angora, with a few odd pieces of wool and some alpaca thrown in for fun. Some of the yarn has angelina in it for some bling!A Complete Hoof to Ward Robe Experience!
This entire ensemble will be for sale in Alba Ranch's Online Shop after the Art Prize Show and the 9th Annual Heart of Colorado Wearable Art Show. Look for in the shop around the end of October 2011.
Felted Hat
I saw this hat in Handwoven and I had bought these looms on line but had only played with making squares, never made a project. I wove the number of squares called for in the pattern and stitched them together. I stitched the top very firmly as instructed in the pattern. I threw it in the washing machine (in an old pillow case) and let it go. It came out great. It fits and I like it, even though my daughter says it looks funny. She didn't know me in my younger days when I always wore hats. I like the brim turned down. When it is turned up it looks too much like "Jughead" for me.
Felted Vessels
Vase by Caroline Hicks-Ellwood, creature by Jenny Hinchman
These are vessels created by our guild members in a recent workshop by felter Linda Van Alstyne. Our guild had a great time! The workshop was 6 hours on a Saturday, and it is wise to keep the class to no more than 15, as there was a lot of one-on-one provided and ecouragement of individual expression with the forms.
Linda is located in the greater Albany, NY area. For more information, please contact her directly at: vancampt@earthlink.net.
