Flämmchen band
Tablet woven band, pattern found on Babette's Webseite http://www.b-oberholz.de/editor/index.php. 12 cards, continuous warp method (orange in AB, blue-violet in CD). Finished size 0.5" (1.25 cm) by 22" (56 cm), including fring. 19" (48.5cm) woven length. My second tablet woven band.
Very difficult to photograph these strongly contrasting colors accurately, but it's a very striking band. There are some variations on this flame pattern on Babette's site.
One or two wonky areas- the crochet cotton size 10 has a pretty hard twist, and the right side where the S-Z twist goes against it's grain it tended to kink up a bit- I have one or two loose loops at the beginning before I started to be very careful about pulling the weft taut on the next shed to lock into place.
Simple Ramshorn pattern tablet woven band
My first successful tablet woven band.
I've done a couple of others, but they couldn't be called successes.
I found that Phiala's String
Page was the best for clearing
up a lot of confusion on my part. I found the pattern at theloomybin.com.
Sprang Hat on an Anglo-Saxon Tablet-woven Band
This band will become the foundation for a separate warp, woven in as a supplemental weft and then stretched on a frame to weave the sprang-work netting for the hat.
I saw this photo of the Bronze Age excavation-inspired hats in Candace Crockett's book Tablet Weaving probably 5 years ago, and have wanted one ever since. Now is the time. I will learn to weave sprang, and get my hat!
Anglo-Saxon #6d
This particular pattern is woven in a 2-pack method, with the
odd-numbered cards turned for one pick, and the even-numbered cards
turned for the next. This unfortunately creates really sloppy selvedges, so I had to change the turning sequence so that the edge cards were being turned for every pick.
So, turning sequence:
Pick 1 - All odd-numbered cards forward
Pick 2 - Card 1, all even-numbered cards, card 25 forward
Repeat
Birka Strapwork Motif
Turning sequence is listed on the website as follows:
- 2 times
- all forward
- 2 times
- 1-2 forward, 3-4 backward, 5-8 forward, 9-12 backward, 13-16
forward, 17-20 backward, 21-24 forward, 25-26 backward 27-28
forward
- 2 times
- 1-6 forward, 7-10 backward, 11-14 forward, 15-18 backward,
19-22 forward, 23-26 backward, 27-28 forward
- 2 times
- 1-4 forward, 5-6 backward, 7-8 forward, 9-10 backward, 11-12
forward, 13-14 backward, 15-16 forward, 17-18 backward, 19-20
forward, 21-22 backward, 23-24 forward, 25-26 backward, 27-28
forward
- repeat sequence as needed
- I found that marking the A-D card edge with red marker helped me to keep track of my place in the pattern, which I memorized pretty quickly.
Birka Strapwork Belt
I started weaving this band just because I wanted to try a period-authentic draft and I wanted to try out a 2-pack weaving pattern. Once I got it going, I realized it was a little wide for a belt for me, so I settled on a belated birthday gift for my husband. Belt fittings were purchased from www.quietpress.com
My first tablet-woven band
Mom got me a floor inkle loom for my birthday, so I decided to give it a try with some warp that I had sitting around from a failed tablet-weaving attempt a couple years ago. I threaded up with a design from Candace Crockett's book, to which I added a bit more border. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, but once I got it going and decided I really liked how it was turning out, I decided that it should trim my wool fighting dress - a full-length viking hangerok - around the top. I didn't end up weaving the whole warp - once it was long enough to go around the dress, I got impatient and decided I was done. I'll get pictures of the dress after I get it washed - it still has a spot of mud on it from the last time I wore it fighting!
ramshorn wristband
A very frustrating first attempt at staring with a twisted loop on the warp. Got there eventually but I'll be experimenting a bit more with this
