shibori runners
This was a workshop project. We were to:
1) Weave a square block.
2) Weave an elongate block.
3) Weave a verticle stripe using one pattern block.
4) Weave with one pattern harness lifted.
5) Use pick-up stick to p/u random groups of thread in a closed shed.
6) Use pick-up stick to p/u random groups of thread in an open shed.
We dyed using pre-reduced indigo from Pro Chemical and Dye.
shibori scarf
This scarf was woven undyed, incorporating shibori threads (fishing line) in a monk's belt pattern. Using Procion MX dyes, the colours were handpainted onto the gathered up fabric to attain the final dyed patterning.
Silk Noil Woven Shibori Scarves
I bought this silk noil on ebay several years ago and recently decided to weave scarves with it. I'm going to try woven shibori on an 8 shaft huck threading just to see what I get. Instead of measuring and marking the end of each scarf, I'm going to try changing the pattern gradually over the warp as a whole, dying it in one piece, then dividing it into scarves.
10/29- I wove all of the silk noil weft I had, then tried the Black Magic as weft for the last section. It has a high polyester content, so the scarf "permanently pleated" when I steamed it to heat set the dyes.
