I am just learning to enter WIFs with a software that I am unused to so bear with me for the file. The repeats for each section are in the article.  I color coded and left blanks to make it easier to see the draft.

I see my first upload was upside down and now this has been fixed.

I selected April Fools' Day as my starting date (although I am not sure it was) because I was a fool to undertake this. Some of my fellow weavers urged me to cut it off and take my losses. But I am too stubborn. And it has turned out quite well--so far. For the full story see http://abovefault.net/studio/dog-on-the-.... Stay tuned

The stripes in the warp and weft are totally random, so different for the five plaid towels.  I used all yellow weft for one towel.

Notes:

I found this pattern in Handwoven and used it to make a towel for a friend.  I have enough warp to make another one for myself which will be with a light green cotton, also 8/2.

I like the feel and heft of this and think it will be even nicer after a few washings.  Even though I counted the warp thread numerous times, I ended up with too many.  Those extra ones must sneak in at night when I'm not watching.

Nothing shows up an error like taking a picture after you are done weaving.  So...it's not an error, it's a design feature which I probably will not use for the next towel.

Notes:

I call this colorway Glow: as in Rosey Peachy Lilac Glow.... sunset colors.  I've really enjoyed weaving the linen warps that I've painted.  There's nothing like linen and to have it in vibrant color is even better.  Don't get me wrong, I adore the color of natural linen, especially handspun from the very blonde fiber, but sometimes you just need some color and no one seems to do this commercially in linen.  I make the warp floats the right side of the towel to keep the color in the foreground.

Notes:

I painted this warp this past summer and have been saving it for the dreaded depths of winter. It brightens everything up.  I have to pace myself and not weave too fast, gotta make it last.  It's cheerier on the loom than the finished pieces would be.  I'll definitely be dyeing this colorway again.  Hooray for Mx dyes.

Notes:

My spouse's niece is pregnant.  Yes, the one I started the handkerchief edging for!  Let's see if I can get this done in time.  The christening is going to be in December.  I need to design, sample, and make the cloth in time for my SIL to make it.  Given that last week included a 20 hour work day, what are the odds?

Here goes!

7/11/09 I've received the color sample - a piece of the sash Kerri wore with her wedding gown.  I have a lot of 120/2 silk that is a close match, so that will be the fiber.  I've designed a huck heart pattern that my SIL says to use.  Now all I need is the loom!  That is supposed to be delivered in a couple of weeks, but I've asked if it can be delivered sooner.  I've never worked with silk that fine so I need to sample, sample, sample!

8/4/09 My loom is supposed to arrive tomorrow.  To prepare for this, I'm doing a series of samples.  The first will be a sash made out of Bambu 12.  It is only 6,300 yds per lb, but it has some slip.  I only got two ounces, because I question how ecologically same making it is.  I also got some 20/2 cotton that I will play with (haven't decided what yet) to work with a finer set.  I really want some cheap, fine rayon but haven't been able to find it yet.
