Better Together
This was an experiment with color and texture, using a variety of warps. I used the same yarns for the weft, using an irregular, but sequential pattern. I call it "Better Together" because it reminds me of people. We may be an assortment of odds and ends, but each one has value, especially when woven together.
Fibers are mostly bamboo and cotton, some ribbon, and a few unknowns thrown in the mix.
Peony Scarves
Mixed warp-20/2 silk, 2/8 cotton, rayon chenille, Nuna (40% merino,40% silk, 20% bamboo). Warp 3 threads together, changing one randomly. Weft- 20/2 silk black first shown, 20/2 purple second shown, mixed greens on the loom now. Framed the scarf design with 8 ends black both sides. Twisted fringe finish. The purple scarf is a little wider because I opened up the sett for the chenille area to allow more drape.
Sparkly narrow band
This little band started life as a demo band at a show. After the show, only partly woven, it languished in a box until I rediscovered it. I love the colours! It's an experiment with variegations, as two of its yarns are blatantly variegated, and the remaining fine cottons have colours that undulate (the Orangey-red, for example, has zones that are Very Red and others that are Very Orange -- but the overall effect is too subtle to really call it a variegation).
The band is woven in warp-faced plainweave, but the variegations give it a more complex appearance.
The yarns are mixed. The fine cottons were sold as mini-skeins intended for use by embroiderers. The Red sparkly yarn is also fine (a "chainette" about the weight of a 10/2 cotton when under tension); but the variegated sparkly yarn is heavier (about the weight of 5/2 perle cotton).
I like this band enough that I now need to make a jacket to go with it!
Unknitted Cashmere Gray Scarf
A mixed warp scarf for my sister's friend Amy. I put on enough warp for 2 scarves, but I don't have enough gray cashmere to make the second, so the 2nd one will be tan I think.
The cashmere was amazingly soft. I finished with about 6" of twisted fringe. I'm sad to see this one go in the mail.
Garage Sale Gamp
Small color gamp to try out various yarns from a large sale of weaving yarns. Most were sport weight but the Magenta and Lime Green were doubled lace weight. Fiber was uncertain so I wanted to see what would happen after weaving and washing. The Lime Green did not shrink or felt but I was surprised that it was the only one that did not work. The warmer colors didn't felt as nicely as the green/blue end and the Magenta really needed three strands to balance rather than two. I've spun a hank of three-strand in Magenta and plan to do a more complicated plaid in the Magenta to Green range.
Shore 2 Please Purses
A mixed-warp tabby-woven project. originally for a scarf but it's a bit too wide so I'm planning to make it into the outer layer of a couple of purses.
