This is the second year in which I've woven a "tapestry diary"--a bit of tapestry weaving to indicate each day of the year with mark(s) created with dots and/or lines same number as the day of the month being woven. Each day is about 1.75" square, seven across the width. Because I've been out of town quite a lot this year, I decided to indicate those days by leaving empty warps. Half-hitches were used at top and bottom of the empty warps and strips of poster board woven into place to be removed later and also to give a base upon which to continue with the weaving when back home.
The piece was completed on December 31, 2010. The year, 2010, was woven in stylized Roman numerals and also my initials, TMS. I cut the tapestry off in the afternoon of the last day of 2010 and plans for the third year-long tapestry diary are underway... more about that once the year begins and I have it underway!
I love this idea, it is such a great way to make yourself weave each day. Thank you for sharing. Deb Mc
Happy new year to you! I'm thinking now that each month I'll "study" something different about tapestry with the tapestry diary... make it more than just a persistence project. I'm heading to the studio now to put a warp on one of the frame looms and consider soumack for the month of January (maybe!)
This is spectacular Tommye! I love the photo with the strips removed and can't wait to see it hanging. What a wonderful way to celebrate a year of weaving.
Wonderful project. Thoughtful as well as beautiful.
