A tapestry based upon an earlier batik I did using a quilt made by my grandmother as subject.
I always enjoy seeing your work and find pieces in progress are particularly interesting. The subject reminds me that inspiration can come from anywhere. What a wonderful connection to your grandmother!
I've wanted to weave this for some years... have used this particular quilt for inspiration for three smaller pieces. I've always admired the simple, direct way my grandmother chose the fabrics for her quilts... nothing "artsy" yet there was a folk art quality to her results.
I love that. It's so vibrant and alive.
I love to look at your "works in progress" I've been weaving for about a year now and your work was my inspiration to start. Thanks!
The tapestry is stunning! I notice in the upper background a technique I've seen before but don't know what it's called, maybe slightly pulled slits? It gives the effect of fine openings, like the fine stitching you'd find on a quilt. A really nice detail to this beautiful piece.
The upper area that you're mentioning has lazy lines done to be obvious... snugging the turn of the weft at the meet/separate point just a teeny bit. And thank you for saying it reminded you of stitching on a quilt... I'd hoped for that effect.
