I found this draft for weaving double weave without double the number of ends. I liked the idea of having little pockets to put sequins in, and it seemed like a good doubleweave project to start with. I have to put the sequins into the little pockets every twelve picks, using a tweezer. The draft is taken from The Best of Weaver's Doubleweave, page 80. I am hoping to do another double weave project when this one is finished. Using double the ends and having a different color on each side.
I read about a lacy shawl in a back issue of Handwoven Woven magazine using Aunt Lydia's Bamboo/cotton yarn. It has a very soft hand and doesn't appear to wrinkle. My concern when starting this project was the fact that the sequins could not be washed or ironed. I was able to find washable sequins on the internet. According to the article in the Handwoven Magazine, the bamboo/cotton yarn needs only to be blocked when wet finished. I'll let you see how this turns out when the full sized sample sequin scarf comes off the loom.
The inspiration for doing this sequined pocket scarf came because my dear friend in Florida moved "up north" to a city in northern Florida where it's colder than in Southwest Florida which is where I live. I thought a scarf would be a nice gift for someone living in a "colder" climate. All this is tongue in cheek, and she will just love the sequins.
I love the pockets and the sequins-Wow what a job putting in the sequins-your friend will love it
Very creative.! And very beautiful effects.
Great idea, and the results look so pretty!

I am having fun weaving this scarf. It weaves surprizingly fast, and is very easy, even with the insertion of the sequins. And...it sparkles!!

I love this idea! What fun to weave little pockets and put stuff in them!
so is there only one sequin in the pocket? They look like little stars!
Yes, there is only one sequin in each pocket. For every sequin in a pocket there are at least 2 or 3 on the floor under the loom. That doesn't count the time I bumped the sequin container and a large batch "flew" everywhere! :)))

The finished scarf is beautiful - I love the sparkles

I finished the scarf over the weekend. The sequins sparkle very nicely. The sparkles were difficult to photograph. The scarf is very soft and has a nice hand. I posted a photo of the finished scarf.

I can see the sparkles nicely in one of your pictures. This is such a great idea!
So the sequins are enclosed but not sewn into the pockets. How cool and so pretty!

This project is on my "to do" list. Thanks for reminding me of it. Yours looks beautiful!
What a clever idea! I love the subtle sparkle!
