This is a reproduction of a Rarámuri (or Tarahumara) band I´ve found in the internet. I´ve changed a bit the design. You can find another beautiful Rarámuri band at www.backstrapweaving.wordpress.com, made by Laverne Waddington who has introduced me to those beautiful textiles. I´ve known this indigenous people a long time ago after reading Antonin Artaud´s book Les Tarahumaras, but then I didn´t know that they were great weavers, apart from being long distance runners, and above all, they never lie.
Did you do this piece on a backstrap loom?
Beautiful!
Hi Marsha,
I did this piece in a backstrap loom. It´s pebble weave.
Thanks for your kind words.
Cheers
Helena
Laverne's book on Andean Pebble Weave is available as a downloaded PDF ebook now, as well as on paper. Lovely, clear instructions and illustrations, including many color photos. Check her profile here for a
