This band will become the foundation for a separate warp, woven in as a supplemental weft and then stretched on a frame to weave the sprang-work netting for the hat.
I saw this photo of the Bronze Age excavation-inspired hats in Candace Crockett's book Tablet Weaving probably 5 years ago, and have wanted one ever since. Now is the time. I will learn to weave sprang, and get my hat!
