waffle weave bath towels

Dear Mr W,

Your towels are beautiful.  I would like to weave some for my sister and BIL the couple who have everything.  Do you have a resource for the 30s/4 linen, and estimate cost?  Did you make hems in tabby and stitch by machine?  How did you do the selvedges? Did you make tabby selvedges, or use floating selvedge?  Thank you for posting this project.   XO Gail & Fog

I agree!

These are beautiful!!! I love weaving with linen, too, and this is a very inspirational project.

I too would appreciate some more details :-)

You know, I was just thinking

You know, I was just thinking that with this heat, linen sheets would be the ticket, and linen curtains.

Now I've added linen bath towels to the list.

These look great - please do tell us more about them.

Ultimately luxury

Thanks for your comments.  The linen bath towel is perfect for handweaving.  Cool to the touch, super absorbant, quick drying and you can hang them in front of the window as curtains when not in use!  I've now made 10 and given 9 away as presents.  The 10th is mine.  I was inspired by Scott Norris (www.elamswidow.com).  The linen came from Peter Patchis in Rhode Island at about $15/lb.  He sold out though and now I'm looking for more.  Halcyon has Newport Linen 16/2 which is very similar, but pricey ($45.95/lb).  Let me know if you find another cheap source.  I use floating selvedges and weave 1.5 inches of tabby at each end.  Then I hem stitch on the loom, fold it twice for a 1/2 inch hem, and hand stitch with linen thread.
