This is an early Birthday present for my roommate. It took me longer to cut up the t-shirts than it did to weave the rug. It is very heavy! Knotted on one side and smooth on the other. She loves these rugs for in the kitchen.
Wow, you must weave very quickly. The rug is lovely and you have one lucky roommate.
Great photos, gives us all the info for making a similar rug. The best part about rag rugs, no two are ever alike.

Caudia I am so flattered that you like my t-shirt rug. Ms. Carol has encouraged me in my fiber art adventures from day one, no one deserves this rug more.
At one time I actually stopped making rugs because no one that I made them for would actually put them on the floor. They kept saying they were too pretty to put on the floor and then would use them for other things, like table toppers. :-( The whole reason I started doing rugs was all of my friends and family already had enough table toppers, place mats and wall hangings.
Personally, I want to give people functional pieces, not just pretty to look at pieces...so the rugs went by the way side for a while. Carol actually has several of my rugs and they are on the floor. This gives me immense satisfaction, so I make sure I give her a new one now and again.
Thanks again for your comment, encouragement and flattery.
Marsha - I too love to make my projects functional pieces that are actually used! I too like to use T-shirts in my craftiness, but I hadn't thought of doing regular weaving with them (I've been twining)... But seeing your inspiration, perhaps I will need to try it out!
Hi,
I love your rag rug! It is beautiful. I can't wait to try making one myself.
Thanks for sharing!

I have been saving up my old T-shirts just for this very reason. You've encouraged me to keep at it.
I'm new to weaving, I have a rigid heddle. do you think that my loom will be sturdy enough to make a rag rug? It's 32" so I will have a good width to work with.
