Second project on my floor loom. Having loads of fun with this. Two towels on the warp. The first is an adaptation of the pattern in "The Best of Weavers - Thick 'N Thin." The second towel on the warp is my interpretation of the colors and pattern in my sister's beautiful Polish pottery, so this can hopefully compliment the colors in her kitchen.
Hi Karen, This is really nice. And you have done this by yourself. It may seen very simple to weave plain weave, but as you have probably learned, it can get complicated and you need to concentrate on what you are doing. Great job.
Joanne
I see *three* shuttles and a temple in the photo. Yep, you are certainly having to keep track of a few things while weaving this project!
Congratulation! A surprising effect on 2 treadles. Wonderfull change in color and pick or lat . Do I see some white in the blue warp? Is this a sort og ribbed fabric?
Your design and beautifully woven. Nicely done, Karen!
I really appreciate all your kind comments!
Yes, Joanne, I'm learning that plain weave doesn't have to be all that plain. It was a little scarey to wind the warp and put it on the loom. Every step I kept thnking, "is this going to work?" And, lo and behold, it worked!!
Aubeweave, good eye! There is white 30/2 cotton between every thread of 8/2 cotton, in a log cabin-type arrangement, in the warp and in the weft. That is the element that turns this weaving into "magic." I wouldn't exactly call it ribbed, but it has a wonderful visual and tactile texture!
Our guild is in to shadow weave for the first time, so I study a bit to organize it. To weave 30/2 and 8/2 must be the next. I see shadow weave as a wider log cabin techniqe. So many secrets hidden in simple weaving.
Rigid heddle weaving also is enjoyable.
Wonderful in every way! Design is great and I love the colors. You've taken plain weave to a whole new level. Looks very complicated, requiring a lot of focus. Another great weaving project you have created. Your work is so inspiring to me.
What a great project! I love your colors for both towels. I hope your sister likes hers. Thanks for showing this project to us.
Jenny
A great project! I agree with all the weavers above who have admired this :-)
Yours is one of very few towels that have a little handwoven tab as well. I am particularly fond of them myself !
I am grateful and a little embarrassed by your kind comments. I'm new at this, so I'm stilling learning as I go.
Ellen, I'm glad you like the handwoven tab; I'm fond of them, too, and intend to include that detail in future towels that I will make.
