Notes:

I'm working on a series of scarves trying to study how yarns with long-color variegations (sp?) can be used to maximum effect.  This is the first of those and was an amazing surprise.  Crossing the same colorway in both the warp and weft produced really stunning results (I think).

There were only two tricky parts to the weaving.  First, to create a light, airy scarf where the wool would have room to "bloom" required an extremely light tension and beat.  I wouldn't even characterize it as beating, but more placing the weft and moving it gently into place on a closed shed.

The second tricky part was that in order to maintain the color gradations and somewhat control how they occurred required that each bobbin be wound twice.  Once to get it on the bobbin and then a second time on another to get it in the right sequence.

All of the other elements were simple.  Basic finish, light, gentle, wash, twisted fringe.  The result was exactly what you'd want a wool scarf to be, lighter than air, soft and really alluring.
