Done on a 4 shaft Purrington loom with modifications to allow pickup storage with a 1/3 3/1 pickup twill. Rapunzel silk at 1000 ypp. Yarn softened great during finishing process. I was worried when it came off the loom that I had hand dyed burlap. This scarf represents a 10 year journey, Lao storage pickup and natural dye gradations. I will post process information on my blog when I have a chance. This scarf will be used for a library fund raising donation. The pickup for the word "Read" is now stored for me to use in the future. I plan to add the words "A Book" and some border pickup in the future. Pick up plan was developed with Stitchpainter stencil function. Stay tuned for the rest of the journey as I downsize the epi and go for total insanity in pickup storage! This is not a fast process, falls right into the s...l...o.......w. movement.
The idea is great and I like the colour-harmony. The scarf looks so soft.
I'm eager to read more of this project.
Hi, this is gorgeous! I'm thinking of a WSSA program for October on Zombie projects-- ones that have stalled out. Would this qualify as a one resurrected from that status? Do you *ever* come to meetings from out there in the boondocks where you live :) .... marie
I'll definitely post in the Weaving forum when I update my web page with process pictures, won't happen until next week at the earliest. Marie, this has been 10 years in the development, not really ever stalled out, just learning how to adapt the Lao pickup storage to a western loom with all the infrastructure, lots of R & D. I think I am on the CHT teaching schedule in 2011, haven't heard their final decision on if I'll teach this there or not.....hmmmm, if I come to the WSSA meetings I have to come into town around 4 to miss the mopac traffic and then drive home after dark, with a hour + drive that doesn't happen much. It's totally not the guild, it's the traffic and the drive combo.
It is beautiful and such a great message -- multiple entendres! Such lovely tiny fibers too! Can you wrap your brain around a rug now?
Totally love it. The colors are so soft looking and of course I love books so it would be so great in my wardrobe.
I suspect the librarians will be outbidding the patrons on this one!
