Pre conference event for Earth's Palette Dye Conference was a plant walk led by Katy Blanchard, we walked the area around the Sagebrush Inn and learned about sagebrush, purple asters, snakeweed, gum weed, alfalfa, rabbitbrush and mullein. We ended the walk by finding shade and looking at Katy's hand dye skeins and hand knitted vests with her hand dyed yarn that showed off the natural dye colors of the New Mexico plant life.
Such lovely colors! So different than the palette of my area. wish I could be there.
Sounds like an iinteresting conference. Except for snakeweed and rabbitbrush the other plants all grow here. Mullein is very prevalant and is considered a nuisance weed here. I had planned to try it for dye this summer, but ran out of time and mordant.
