Merino wool in Shale color. Wet finished 3 times and in the dryer 15 mins! VERY FELTY! Fun, almost looks like cable knit. I wanted to see just how far I could felt and still maintain the cable design.
Hi Dawn,
I think your project is wonderful - what a great pattern and how interesting is the outcome?! Have you posted how/where this draft comes from? Most excellent.

Very nice! The weaving looks even better now you've felted it some more. I really like the sculptural look of the cables.

What will you use it for? Does it end up being too thick for a scarf or shawl? Strips like that in different colors and sewn together could make a warm blanket.
A scarf, it is soft and fairly light - My teen daughter has already claimed it to wear.

Hi Dawn, This scarf is beautiful! I thought the other sample you did was beautiful too. Although you mentioned that the other one was terrible to weave. How did you do this one differently? This really is tremendous!
They are identical samples, the difference is in the finishing. The first sample you can still see the weave interlacements, this was wet finished twice and air dried. The felty scarf was agitated between hot and cold water three times and put in the dryer causing felting to occur.
The felted version is still relatively light but the shrinkage was probably in the 30% to 40? range! When weaving the scarf a very light beat was needed and as the floats are 16 ends in length they would want to slide around a lot!
Definately worth the effort!
