2/18 Merino in Shale, sett at 16 epi with 4 blocks done on 8 shafts. Checkerboard effect by dividing the tie up into quarters of plain weave and warp and weft floats - floats are 16 ends long. First sample beat too tightly (even though I barely pressed into place) 2nd actual scarf as shown on loom in picture, is very loosely woven and reminds me of shredded wheat squares.
Sample was fulled in hot soapy water with a cold rinse and repeat. Weaving is excrutiatingly slow (light beat and floating selvedge) this is probably why I haven't done much experimenting with this method!
The sample is the full 13 inches wide and 8 inches high. The selvedges are not in the picture, so the frayed edges are where the fabric was cut. The selvedges are actually reasonable.
Dawn, the middle of this piece of weaving looks great (where the long floats are neatly contained) I think it would look good as a cushion...
How securely have the long floats felted?
Beth
They can be pried apart, If I gave another soak they would probably fuse more. The fabric is surprisingly light and airy! The sample looks awful as I beat a little too firm and the design was not square (nor did I press it!)
It just takes ages to weave!
