This was my first attempt at writing a draft, draw-down, and following it. My selvedges are a mess, but hide against the black of my coat. It's so soft and warm. This project gave me the confidence to really make use of my new-to-me loom.
I'm having to really concentrate to keep track of where I am on the treadling pattern. I have post-it notes on the front beam that I check off when I complete a section. I've un-wove (if that's a word) several times and REALLY confused myself. I can see a mistake in the picture that I never saw while weaving. I hope I can needle weave a correction later. Absolutely love seeing the pattern emerge.
Chris; Once you see those patterns start emerging on your loom...you won't ever want to stop weaving!!

PS Thanks for posting the weave draft.
I can't think about anything but weaving!!!
Congrats on getting your loom warped and now reading a pattern and starting a project! I also love seeing the pattern emerge. You will find with a little more practice that you can tell which harness to lift next by which way you want your twill line to go. You're off to a great start!
I really have to concentrate, so I'm glad to know I will be able to tell eventually where I'm at with the design. Thank you for the encouragement. My selvedges are a little messy, but I'm trying not to obsess over that while I'm practicing.
This is so eye-catching! I love the way the colors roll like a wave and then seem to dip under the black. Very nice!

And I'm a little proud of myself, too. :) Before I try overshot, I think I'm going to make another project in a different colorway by tying a new warp onto the waste yarn and pulling it through the heddles.
Someone (sorry, I've lost track of what thread it was on) suggested I use a paperclip and slide it along the draft as I weave -- such a simple suggestion, but it has given me so much confidence that I won't lose my place. Also, now that I'm weaving more and being confused less, I am starting to "get" the twill pattern and knowing how the pattern develops. Woo-hoo! I'm at 36" woven and I just wound 8 more bobbins while we still had power before the Nor'easter hits Maine. (I can weave without elecricity!)
Your project is beautiful! I've been too chicken to try a variegated warp so far but you may yet convince me to try it.
I decided to try it with some inexpensive multi-colored acrylic. Sometimes it's hard to see on the ball if it's a long or short color change, but this worked out well for me. It's so soft and warm, I'm glad I made it for myself!
Clever way to wear and fasten with the button. Nice choice of colors.
Chris - *So* inspiring, as usual! I'm glad you decided to keep it. Love the button!
