This is a warp faced wall hanging with motifs used on Bedouin tent dividers and bags. Bedouin weavings are often done in black, natural and red tones using warp substitution which they call shajarah and other narrow bands of pick up called al-'uwairjan. The weavings are warp faced with bands of weft twining at the edges and within the weaving. I incorporated some very narrow bands of weft twining within the piece. More about this on my blog.
Laverne, you never cease to amaze us!
Laverne,
I hope some of your pieces catch the eye of a gallery owner or museum. Spectacular!
I think she should be given a curator's post at a national folk museum - she's basically already earned her PhD in ethnography and folk-lore! (grin).
Just when I thought you couldn't surprise me anymore with your fabulous work here you've gone and done it again. I have to get a thesaurus because I'm running out of words to describe your work. Always an inspiration -- thank you.
Bonnie.
