Notes:

Ashlyn Yarrow Inouye is my oldest grandchild and recently celebrated her fifth birthday. Her middle name is a family name on Chandra's side and also the name of a flower and the name of a river in Scotland. This "yarrow blanket" was popular when Ashlyn was little. Yarrow is not an easy flower to weave! I studied drawings and photographs and wove individual florets and whole plants with flower heads. I hope it helps her to learn about flowers. The structure is turned summer and winter. For a baby blanket, both sides need to be functional.

Love the blanket and baby photo.

I want to do more designing with floral images.  Just trying to finish up projects and looking toward the future.

Yarrow is not the easiest

Yarrow is not the easiest flower to weave! But it is Ashlyn's middle name and this helps her to recognize her "special flower". I joked that they should have given her a different flower name, one that is easier to weave, like Lily or Violet or Daisy (Marguerite) or Rose.  But Yarrow is a family name in Ashlyn's mother's family. I used individual florets for part of the design and whole flowers with stems and leaves for the borders.  It was fun. Now she is 5. I saw her on Skype this week and she had made a "tent" with this blanket in the living room.
