Overtwisted weft, end weft stainless steel/wool, collapsed by 60% in water
Gorgeous!
Fascinating! I would love to hear more about how you did this. What was the warp? I can see how open the web was on the loom and after finishing it really came together into a lovely cloth. Are the ends machine sewn -- it looks that way on the photo. Was the stainless steel/wool from Habu and the overtwisted weft handspun singles? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm so intrigued!

Hi Suzy,
The warp was hand painted 60/2 bombyx silk doubled and a tussah silk about equivalent to the doubled 60/2's. You have the rest all correct. The ends are zigzagged. I did that before wet finishing and zigzagged through the cloth and a layer of wax paper to stablize it for sewing, then tore away the wax paper. You are right about the sources of the yarn. I used a combination of a handspindle and the ultra high speed flier on my Lendrum to spin a very fine handspun. I think it was about 96 wraps per inch, twisted enough that, if allowed to double back on itself, it would look like an average twist yarn.
