We promised a new, improved Weavolution, and many of you are experiencing some of our growing pains. About 6 months after our launch, we discovered that the site was growing at a much quicker pace than anticipated, and we soon discovered that our original platform was unable to support our increasing user activity and meet our changing needs.
As time went on and the site continued to grow exponentially, it became clear we were unable to make the desired improvements or find a developer who would work within the established platform. We needed to partner with a company who could migrate as much of our user content over as possible, ensure the new platform was stable, and be willing to work with us through projected future growth and change.
We are now operating on a stable platform with a cleaner design, and plan to build up from here — and YES, we need YOUR help! You have created a wonderful foundation of projects, drafts, and forum discussions over the past year. As you navigate the new site, we are listening to your concerns and working hard with the developers to make Weavolution more user-friendly and deliver high-functionality.
Based on your feedback so far, our top priority is working on changing Groups and Forums to straight chronological order, so they will no longer be threaded. Additional items we are working on with our new developers include:
- enable email notification for PM and notifications
- add an interactive calendar to the Resources section
- remove the word “Weavolution” from under the logo in IE 7 & 8; other fixes to code in those browsers so icons show in Comment box.
- reduce the print size in Groups and Forums
- switch to straight chronological order for comments in Groups & Forums
- arrange Groups so people appear in order of when they joined
- add the date a group was created
- allow Guilds to add to the List of Guilds in the Resources section; arrange Guilds in geographical order
- restore ads which are missing on several pages including Help, Add Stuff, and all the Resources pages
- restore missing projects
As we are an all-volunteer entity, please bear with us as we work through this process. We have precious little in the way of financial resources, so we will need to allocate funds for platform development carefully and incrementally. Improvements come to our users through individual donations and revenue generated from our advertisers. We are extremely grateful to all of you for your continued support in building this unique, international, online weaving community of 6,000+ users and growing!
