The Skinny on Weavolution

August 1, 2010 (All day)

We promised a new, improved Weavolution and many of you have expressed disappointment with the new site.  Some have argued that the old site was better.  There is one important exception, the old site was constructed on a rotted, corrupted foundation.  We were unable to make improvements, unable to find a developer who would even discuss repairing it.  We were given two choices-

- wait for it to crash and lose everything, or

- start with a new, fresh clean site and build from there

Allowing the site to crash meant losing everything.  Starting all over meant having to chose what we brought from the old site based on available resources.  We contracted with PingV to build a new site and migrate all the projects, groups and forums.  They brought drafts over, too.

We are working on changing Groups and Forums to straight chronological order and no longer threaded.  We have asked the developers to give us a cost estimate for that change along with the following items:

  1.  enable email notification for PM and notifications
  2.  add an interactive calendar to the Resources section
  3.  remove the word “Weavolution” from under the logo in IE 7 & 8; other fixes to code in those browsers so icons show in Comment box.
  4.  reduce the print size in Groups and Forums
  5.   switch to straight  chronological order for  comments in Groups & Forums
  6.   arrange Groups so people appear in order of when they joined
  7.   add the date a group was created
  8.   allow Guilds to add to the List of Guilds in the Resources section;  arrange Guilds in geographical order
  9.   ads are missing on several pages including Help, Add Stuff, and all the Resources pages

Once we have an idea of the cost for these additions, we will decide what we can afford to fix now and what will be fixed later.

We are following up on the missing projects separately.

Weavolution is run completely by volunteers, it is a community not an individual endeavor.  Please contact us if you would like to assist.
