Get Me to the Church on Time!! .jpg)
For those who have been following the saga, I'm pleased to announce that my handwoven wedding ensemble is now complete, and will be on display at CNCH! (Details on the wedding ensemble at http://www.weavolution.com/node/8763 .) There are two pieces, a handwoven dress and handwoven coat. The dress is woven from 16 yards of fine silk (60/2 silk warp, 120/2 silk weft, sett at 72 epi), and sewn using couture techniques. (As a small example, there are five lines of stitching just in each hem, four of them stitched by hand!) It is embellished with imported French Alencon lace and cultured Akoya pearls - retail value for lace and pearls is nearly $2000!
The coat is also handwoven, from a 60/2 silk warp (sett at 60 epi) and a very fine gold metallic weft. The body of the coat is patterned with Tibetan eternity knots (draft available on Weavolution at http://www.weavolution.com/node/6457 ), and the ribbon that runs down the front opening is patterned with Chinese double-happiness characters, symbolic of a happy marriage. (The double-happiness character draft is located on Weavolution as well. http://www.weavolution.com/node/653 ) The draft for the dress (available at http://www.weavolution.com/node/6455 ), is a three-strand Celtic braid, which symbolizes eternity in Celtic lore.
Together, the dress and coat symbolize a wish for eternal happiness in marriage. Thus, the title of the ensemble is "Eternal Love".
It took nearly a year, and over 1000 hours of devoted work, to weave and sew the ensemble - so I'm hoping you'll come to see it!
The dress and coat will be on display at the Fashion Show on Friday night (don't be late - I'm the first number!) and in the Fashion Show Galleries on Saturday and Sunday. Admission to the galleries is only $10, so if you're in the area, come to CNCH (details here) and check it out!
