Create and moderate a Group

Creating Groups

Groups are what make social networks such as Weavolution fun! Members can start threads to discuss an upcoming event in their area, discuss a draft or a problem, or just chat about life, weaving, and everything.

 

At this point, the Groups function in Weavolution is simple, and it's easy to create a group. First check the list of groups to see if one already exists for that particular interest or area. If no group exists, create your own by following these simple steps.

 

Click on "Create new group" on the left-side menu. This will open a page labeled "Create Group."

Type the name of the group in the Title: box. This is the name your group will be known by.

 

Type a short description of thegroup in the Description: box. This description will appear next to the group's name on the "Groups" page.

 

Type the welcome information (aka "The Mission Statement") in the Mission Statement box. This is where you have an opportunity to tell everyone what your group is really about or any rules you might have about memberships and posting. If you want the entire box to be on the group's page, leave the Show summary in full view check-box clicked.

 

Membership requests: The group administrator (the person who creates the group) has the option to restrict membership in a group. The choices are:

·         Open: Anyone can join, and the membership request is accepted immediately.

·         Moderated: Anyone can request membership, but the administrator must approve the membership request

·         Invite only: Memberships in the group must be created by an administrator, then an invitation is sent to the prospective member.

·         Closed: All memberships must be created and eliminated by the administrator. Members do not have the option of leaving.

 

Do you want your group to appear on the list of groups page? Leave the check-box clicked. However, if this is a private group and visible only to the members, unclick the List in groups directory check-box and click the Private group check-box.

 

Finally, you can upload a group photo that will serve as the banner on your group's page. A photo must be a jpg, png, or gif image, and there is a 230x150 pixel size limitation (larger photos will be scaled). Simply use the Browse button to locate the photo on your laptop, then click Upload.

 

Once you've filled in the information and selected a photo, click on Preview to check the appearance of your page. If it needs a bit of work, click on the Edit page link; if it's ready to go, click on Save.
