  Hi Ellen!  I watched your

Hi Ellen!  I watched your video- you were pretty composed under the watchful eye of the camera.  I was impressed!  In your video, you asked for feedback to improve your weaving.  My only suggestion would be to throw the shuttle harder so that you don't have to reach into the web to push it along.  Of course that means you gotta be there at the other end to catch it!  Otherwise you might end up clocking one of the dogs in the head!  In weaving class at FIT, the workroom would be silent except for the changing of harnesses- and the occasional clatter of a shuttle that got away!  HAHAHAHA!!!

Your blog is alot of fun- you have a very busy life- your spinning is so beautiful and you have chosen some batts the like of which i have never seen. When you spin the color blocked ones, will they spin up the way they look?  In sections, black only, then green only??  I learned to spin last year- that is the subject of another group... maybe SpinFail??

Thanks for posting and give the doggers a pat from me!

Hi Ellen, this is a beautiful

Hi Ellen, this is a beautiful piece, but looks very frustrating to weave. I'm guessing you don't normally weave this wide? Here's a couple of things to try.

Check your treadle cords.  You may be able to change the length to get a bigger shed.  A half inch may be all you need.

Advance more often, perhaps after every inch. That will give you a bigger shed.

If you have lease sticks in between the heddles and the back beam, remove them.

Same for a raddle on the back beam or a string across the warp anywhere.

Push the beater back, throw harder than normal, and throw right along the reed.

Try to throw straight, the shuttle seems to want to curve toward the cloth.

Don't overfill your quill, it's causing drag.

Using a bobbin rather than a quill may allow you to fill the bobbin more (cylinder rather than a tapering bulge).

Switch to a shuttle with a longer bobbin.

Switch to a lower profile shuttle.

There are some rag shuttles that will hold a tremendous amount of yarn and have a low profile.  Not a ski shuttle, they are probably too tall.  It is slower to have to unwind the next shot, but the weaving may be faster.

Good luck!

My Loom Dog

Gee, I thought I would have been notified of the followup posts.  I guess not!

I had messed with the tie up quite a bit adjusting the treadle cords and the lamms.   I just could not get much else to move.

In hindsight, I should have re-done the repair heddle, as that is where it was catching the most.

The other shuttles I had are much taller (Schacht) than the Andersson shuttles I was using. And I just had borrowed the end feed shuttle and the winding job on the pirn was atrocious!

If i had to do it over again, I would do a lot of things differently with the tie up before proceeding.

Luckily the end product was worth it.

Lovely

It does look really nice.

As for notifications, we are working on it.  The developers are able to see the notifications and they are queueing on the website, not going out and we haven't been able to determine why yet.  New comments are appearing in the Dashboard and the tracker view for Groups & Projects.  Both views allow you to click on the red new and go directly to the new comment.

Please add this to your projects, the date field issues are fixed. It looks great and you learned a lot.
