Thank you so much for your very generous compliaments!
However, this was definately a mistake.  If you go through the projects a
little further you will see the little loom set up with the warp on
it.  The story of course is below the pics.

I am using a Gilmore mini wave loom.  It is new to me as is warpface
weaving.  I am having alot of trouble learning the warping as I can't
find info that suits this hybrid loom.  It is a cross of table loom and
inkle loom.  Anyway, I was actually trying to warp for a basket weave
from Helen Bress book on Inkle weave, so I could do a solid background and maybe
(believe it or not) a celtic knot work pattern.

Anyway it seems that I should have only used 1/2 revolution on the
warp board for the pattern thread and one full revolution for the two
fine threads that surround the pattern thread.  I did indeed warp fine,
fine, heavy but forgot to factor in the fact that you cut those warps in
half to thread them through the heddles after winding onto the warp
beam.  Thus my off pattern.

I thought the color combination was 'snappy' and decided to go with it.
Being a tapestry weaver for many years I have discovered that what used
to be the easiest thing in my weavings, warping, is now the hardest with warpface
weaves.  I have been an avid follower of Laverne Waddington for some
time now and am doing floats pretty well in the backstrap fashion.  I even figured out how to do them on my tapestry loom.  I am just tired of the
horizontal lines.  I think I am going to try one weft double weave next
so I can have the solid background.  You would not believe how much warp
I have wasted in the few weeks since I have had this loom.  I hate waste,
especially since in tapestry you can make use of most everything no
matter how small.  I even spin alot for my tapestries, not possible with
the warpface.  Big learning curve going on here.

I guess I am rambling.  Again I Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and would love to hear from you again.

Below you see picture of the final product.

I am trying to use 20/2 Rayon for the first time and can not find a chart to tell me how to sley a 12 dent reed with the 20/2 rayon, which should have 40 e.p.i. could some one tell me how to sley this 20/2 rayon or tell me where I can find a chart to help me. Thnaks TNWEAVE.

Hi TNWEAVE,

The reed substitution page seems to be having some problems of its' own, but you can use the sleychart at the New York Guild of Handweavers site.

http://www.nyhandweavers.org/tools.htm

You would sley 3 ends in the first dent, 3 in the 2nd dent and 4 in the 3rd dent, repeat. I will caution you that my weaving professor at FIT advised us not to sley more than 3 ends in a dent, as tangling can be a big problem. Make sure that you respect your cross when threading the heddles!

And welcome to Weave Fail !

Thanks for you help, but I looked at the sley chart that you posted and for a 12 dent reed with 20 weight it says to sley 1-2-2, unless I am reading it wrong. You said to sley 3-3-4 so I am confused. Please advise since I am threading the heddles now. Thanks TNWEAVE

Hi TN,

Use the sley chart like this- look across the top of the chart to find the size reed you want to use.  (12) then go down that column until to find the EPI ends per inch, that you want in you weaving.  In your case, you want 40 EPI- then look across to the column on the left to find the sley order, which is 3-3-4.  The mistake that you made was to look at 20 instead of 40.  You want to look at the EPT number, not the yarn size.

Thanks Gail, this makes more sense and I appreciate the lesson on the chart, it will make reading the CHART easier and help sley the correct order. Thanks John

Hi Gail,

The only reason I can think of for tangling to occur is in front to back beaming?  When beaming back to front there should be no problem with 3 or 4 ends per dent.  One does have to be aware of reed marks but they often come out during wet finishing.  And if not, so long as they are consistent, it won't look 'wrong'.  :)

Cheers,

Laura
