Here's my second rug. I'm really enjoying this. Can't wait to start another one. I'm hooked. Can you get an addiction to making rugs? Where's does RRAA ( Rag Rugs Addiction Anonymous) meet, because I think I'm addicted...............Steve.

Very nice.  I just finished

Very nice.  I just finished my fourth such rug and really enjoy making them.  :)  If I may ask, how are you joining your strips?  I tried the tying method on two of my rugs ... and the sewing method on the latter two.  I've heard of a "laid in" method but don't understand it?

Also I used my Gilmore loom and the back beam kept loosening on me on the last two rugs.  I wasn't happy about that, of course. :)

On my first rug I used the diagonal sewing tech. See pics. And on the second rug I used the tube tech. That's where you sew 1 yard pieces of fabric into a tube and then cut one continuous strip. I don't know, but ,does your loom have the breaking system in your beams? I have a  Glimakra that uses  ratchets on the beams. I can get the warp really tight. Maybe your breaking system needs to be tightened,if you can.........Steve.

merrymac, Now I believe that

merrymac, Now I believe that laying in is when there is no sewing and you cut the ends of each strip and just lay in on top of the next strip end and continue weaving. See the pic. on how to cut the ends of each strip so it will lay in and not be bulky...........Steve.

Steve - Did you have a preference between the two techniques (diagonal sewing and tube)? I would love to hear any other observations or "lessons learned"! Any pictures of the finished objects? So cool that you are now addicted! :-)

Hi Steve,

Was there a link to your second rug in the previous post?  I'd like to know if it didn't come through with the migration so I can report it to the developers.

If not, can you give us a link to your project?  Just want to make sure it's working.  To link it, just go to the top of the Comment box and click on the icon that looks like to chain links.
