Historic Weaving

dtjacobson's picture

Historic Weaving focuses primarily on historic weaving techniques, and issues surrounding reproducing historic textiles (anything prior to 1950). This list is open to all interested in historic weaving techniques and tools; while weavers interested in early techniques are welcome, this is not exclusively a forum for SCA weavers. The rules are simple:

  1. Be excellent to one another.

  2. Please don't thread-jack.

  3. Have fun!

Textile History Forum, June 10-12, 2011, Eastfield Village, NY

I just received an email about a  call for papers for this event. I'll exerpt some of it below.

Debbie

We're delighted to announce the next Textile History Forum!  It
will be held June 10-12, 2011, at Eastfield Village in East Nassau, NY (just
east of Albany).  We're inviting all of you to SAVE THE DATE and please consider
submitting a paper or a short presentation.

Call
for Papers

The Forum seeks papers on all aspects of textile history, from
Pre-Columbian period through the 21st century, including textile technology,
costume, quilts, weaving, dyeing, spinning, technological innovations, and
textile availability.  Current and unpublished research is especially
encouraged. Those interested in presenting a paper at the Forum
should submit a one-page proposal by April 15, 2011.
  Proposals chosen
for presentation will be announced by May 10.  Final papers should be no more
than 16 pages long, including citations, bibliography, and illustrations.  Final
papers are due by May 31 and may, with the author's permission, be posted
online.  Authors will retain copyright. Those wishing to
share their research but who do not wish to submit a formal paper are encouraged
to present a fifteen minute research update or presentation on their current
research.

Textile
History Forum

The Textile History Forum brings together textile historians, students,
researchers, museum curators, independent scholars, artisans, dealers, and
collectors from around the country for two days of intense exchange.
Participants will have the opportunity to take a behind the scenes tour of the
Historic Cherry Hill textile collection and explore the extensive period
collections of Eastfield Village.  There will be a show and tell session for
newly acquired textiles, and a silent auction of textiles and tools.

Submit
Your Paper or Presentation Proposals!

You can send us your proposal by email rabbitgoodythw@gmail.com or mail us a copy.  Send
hard copies to Rabbit Goody, Textile History Forum, 101 Chestnut Ridge Rd,
Cherry Valley, NY 13320.  Call us if you have questions:
518-284-2729.

Although the setting is
informal, the research and content of the Forum has always been diverse, and
exciting. Please plan on joining us!
