I thought it was time for a new thread: sharing what we've done (now that we're "organized").
My weaving study group has continued to complete the lap robes that we started. So far, each weaver has decided to donate them to the local Women's Shelter that I donated mine to. I'm amazed by the creativity of the weavers in the study group. One weaver wove an extra long piece and planned to cut it in half and seam the two halves together. When it came time for the cutting and sewing, she "flipped" the color changes end to end on one half. The result was a really interesting graphic. I don't have a photo, but see below (As and Bs) where A represents one color and B another:

The result was that any difference in the exact lengths of the color blocks was completely obscured by the flipping. And it looked way cool too. We currently plan a photo at the shelter later in the year.
This is FANTASTIC! Thank you so much for sharing what your weaving study group is doing. I have been frustrated that things are not happening in this group -- but, YOU ARE DOING IT! Bravo!
We don't have to have a huge difficult-to-administer distribution network if each of us is able and responsible for finding a Women's Shelter or an individual who has been hurt by Domestic Violence in our own community. If you want to participate and cannot find a shelter or individual in your area, please contact me and I will do what I can to find an appropriate recipient for your shawl or scarf or lap robe with the help of the Sheila's Shawl network. The important part is to fill the handwoven item with warm and happy and nurturing thoughts that will be wrapped around someone who is hurting. Your weaving will be sure to help these victims heal!
I love the idea of flipping the pieces to create an interesting design! How creative!
Please, please, please document these wonderful gifts of love that you are creating by taking photos and sharing them here on the Weavolution website and this forum to inspire others!
Thank you and your study group SO much! You have made a difference!
Hugs...
Suzy
Just another update. (No photos yet, but we plan to get them!) I was at study group last night and one of the women reported that her laprobes are done. We discussed getting all of the laprobes together to get photos. I'm not sure when it will happen, but I just wanted to let this group know that the work continues...
I, for one, can't wait to see your photos!
