weavolution is incredibly slow today--is there a problem?

I've been checking posts through the dashboard (or trying to) several times today.  I'm totally frustrated at the slowness of response of the site.  I've tried through Safari, through Firefox, and on two different computers.  Have emptied catche and updated... to no avail.

Maybe there's something going on behind the scenes but this is one more frustrating instance when weavo isn't performing to touted abilities.  Maybe I'm just particularly crabby because I've got a hand injury right now that's making it hard to type.  But!

Hi Tommye,

That's odd.  I checked and things are moving very quickly according to our hosting company.  We did experience a spike in users around 1pm EST but we have ample memory available to handle many more users.

Are you using an iPhone or iPad?  It could be your internet servcie provider that is experiencing problems.

Please let me know if it continues.

continues to be slow and/or non-responsive

Again, throughout yesterday and now today.  Weavolution is slow and/or non-responsive.  I have tried on two different computers (both Macs) at two different locations.  It almost never works (over the last two days) with Safari; I'm using Firefox right now and it seems to be working but slowly.

FYI, I will NOT give up my computers or my web browsers for the sake of this particular site.  All other web operations/sites I usually visit are working at the same speed/efficiency as always so can't blame it on anything here.  Only Weavolution that seems to have a problem.

Running slow

I have to agree with Tommye, Weavolution is running slow at this time. Tested speed from Washington, DC to me, down load rate 6.47Mbs, upload .43Mbs

Here too!

Like Kerstin I have had trouble the last couple of weeks. Sometimes weavolution runs slow or I cannot get connected at all. I am only having this problem with weavolution, not with any other sites.

Just now it works fine.

We have added memory

With assistance from our hosting company, I have done an optimization of Weavolution and increased the memory.  You should notice a difference by 12n EST.

Every one, I spent some time

Every one,

I spent some time looking at our usage stats and would appreciate your continued comments.  Did the memory increase help?

Thanks much!

although still slow.

Thanks, Alison.  I'll continue to check in--had just about decided to give up on Weavolution!

Internet connection

Me too, until this afternoon, I found that the site was slow.  But today, I changed my Internet provider and it is a lot faster.  So I figure (personal opinion), that it was my Internet connection that was slow.

For everyone posting on Weavolution speeds...

It would be very, very helpful if you also include what kind of connection you are using:

1) Dial-up, dsl, or cable, and speed if you know it.

2) the name of your ISP

3) your results from www.speedtest.net (if you can run it)

4) When you think you experience the slowness - if you think it varies.  Time Zone information is important for this.

Michael's data is excellent.

And, FYI, www.speedtest.net is an excellent tool for keeping an eye on your ISP and making sure that they are providing the speed that you are paying for.

Thanks,Kay

Speet test

I like using : http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

It is a lot easier to use then speedtest.net.

Hi everyone, We just raised

Hi everyone,

We just raised our memory capacity again by quite a bit.

I've also been playing with www.speedtest.net.  Claudia let me know that the Weavolution server is somewhere near Los Angeles, CA.  So, when you open up the site, it should default your starting point to somewhere near you.  Then select a star in central CA and click on Modesto.  That allow you to test the speed of your service between the two locations.  This doesn't allow you to test the Weavo server specifically.

Please feel free to run the test and let us know the the results.  Please include the info Kay requested above so that our technical volunteers can evaluate it.

Need to move cursor

Hi Everyone.  If I leave the cursor over the area I've just clicked on, it seems that nothing happens.  But as soon as the cursor is moved away the link proceeds.  Sometimes I forget this and sit and wait ...

Bonnie.

Unable to access Weavolution

Hello All, It took me just over thirty minutes to access Weavolution this morning. A speed test shows absolutely no problem. Anyone experiencing problems also? Regards, Frank- The Luminary.

Hosting server down

I was contacted by a user and I notified our hosting co. Who reported that their server was having problems. Not sure how long we were down but we are up and fine now.
Anytime this happens, please email me @ claudia@weavolution.com.
Thanks

usage spikes

As a weavolution user, I know how incredibly frustrating this is. As a weavolution volunteer, I know how hard the tech team is working to address this problem.  Our different consultants and the available diagnostics are pointing fingers in different directions. Is it a DOS attack? A web crawler run amok? Someone screen-scraping content? A problem with our web host, a Drupal issue, or something in the database configuration?  How much of this is a symptom, like growing pains, of our success?  A good, workable solution is going to depend on an accurate diagnosis. You'd think that would be the easy part.

Weavolution management is taking steps (such as raising weavo's memory), but none of it has been successful.  We're back to considering other options.

If anyone out there has real skills in either Drupal or web server administration (apache especially), why not drop us a line? contact@weavolution.com.  A long-term volunteer commitment isn't necessary.  A few hours of conversation and looking over our reports might be enough.

Upload speed

What I have notice was if I try and post something from a group setting it takes forever. Now if I go into the group from the Groups & Forums location I have no problems uploading. I have one other problem, that is in back spaceing. When you get to be an old fart like me you make a lot of typeing errors. When I back space, say 4 spaces the computer thinks about what it wants to do them jumps back after a short time. This only happens here on this site.

Timeing out

I talked to my son who is system security person . Says it sounds like a problem with (some word I don't remember) When a person signs on the servicer looks for information related to this person. When a person leaves with out signing out the server will, after a set time, sign that person out. so if you had 14 weavers and 10 guess online you may in fact have 18-20 or more weavers signed in untill the server times them out. His thinking would be to shorten the time it takes for the server to time someone out.

Thanks Michael.  That's a very good idea and I will definitely pass it on to our technical team and see if they can work with our hosting company to make that happen.  We are also looking into a number of other technical issues.
