As an update to our recent challenges, our developers have been contacted and will be working to fix the immediate problems.  Alison and I are meeting with the developers to discuss recent site stability problems.

Thank you to all our users who have hung in there while we try to find permanent solutions to the problems.  I know you are unable to load pictures anywhere on the site.  I am also aware that spell check has gone missing.  Please post, on this thread, any problems you encounter so we may report them to our developers.

We'll keep you posted as things progress.  Your notes of support and understanding have been very helpful.  (Hmm.  Spell check just showed up.  That's nice.)  Sometimes it feels as though we have been invaded by gremlins.

Posting projects and photos

Hi Claudia,

I just tried to post my photo and project. I got a message stating an "internal server error", FYI.

I will try later this evening.  I'll get more weaving done, so I can post more.

new posts

An issue I had today. . . .this topic in particular showed a red "1" as if it had new posts, but it doesn't, I read both last night.

Thanks for letting us know.

Thanks for letting us know.  That is probably an issue with the caching.  It can take 15-20 minutes for changes to make their way through the cache.  We are making some changes in the next few days and that may get better but it will never go away completely.

Spell check?

Above, Claudia wrote " Hmm.  Spell check just showed up.  "

Spell check??? I have never seen anything resembling spell check unless I "disable rich-text" - and, when/if I do that, it always marks *everything* I write as mis-spelled. I guess that some part of the system knows that my PC "speaks Swedish", and therefore consider everything not Swedish mis-spelled. If so - can I persuade it to spell check my English?

Hey Kerstin,

Hmm, that's a new concern, a Swedish speaking computer that won't spell check English.  Interesting.  I don't think I could persuade it to do otherwise. Computers can be very literal and logical so it must have a reason : )

Sharon, so happy the pics are working for you and everyone.  We have become so used to having that feature and so happy it's fixed.

continuing problems with "new" showing up on posts

This happens over and over and over again.  I read a post and it "goes away" as "new" -- for that session.  When I log on again, either from the home computer or my laptop at the studio, there might (or might not) be a red indicator of "new" associated with a posting.

I visit only the dashboard, and there mark to see only forum or group posts.  If I want to see projects then I visit the projects page but don't include them in the dashboard viewing.

This is a continuing nuisance to me although I realize you have many more substantial problems with the site.  Since I don't have much time to spend with Weavolution I find it annoying to not really find "new" when I think that's what I'm going to read.

Good luck with it all.  I'll drop in occasionally.  I'm sure that someday the site will be all things for all people and make everyone happy!

"New" indicators, possible workaround

We're fairly confident that we've determined the cause of the "new" indicators appearing when they shouldn't, and the new post counts to be higher than they should be.  We believe when we upgrade the site, the problem will be fixed, but upgrading our site is a lot like upgrading to a new version of Windows or MacOS... you never know what else could break.  We're not ready to tackle that right now... and we are working to improve other parts of the site first.

I have identified a workaround that might help in limited cases.  I hate prescribing workarounds - the real issue is that we need to fix our site, not tell our community how to use it - but it's the only option I have available right now.

If you have a "X new" indicator appearing for a forum area where you've already read everything, you can click on the link "Mark all topics read" within that forum area.  I know this workaround is only useful if you're all caught up with reading everything of interest to you.
