Does anyone have experience weaving chenille on a rigid heddle loom? Any thoughts, info or hints? Thanks.
to be taking a class on weaving with chenille on the rigid heddle loom next weekend - Hopefully will get some good tips and hints for working with this type yarn. Not that that helps you any but. . .
HI Dena...these comments are in regards to RAYON chenille....it can be done, but the holes on a rigid heddle are hard on the chenille. It is probably better to use it only in the slots for warp and as weft. If you do use it in the holes in the heddle, be aware that abrasion will possibly cause the pile to fall out.
If you are using cotton chenille, or synthetic cheinlle, you should have no problems if the chenille fits through the holes in the heddle.
Su :-)
on chenille on a rigid heddle last weekend. We used a rayon chenille and an 8 dent reed. We double sleyed the reed using the direct warp method. The biggest issue was keeping a good tension on the yarn while winding on and making sure we packed to 16 ppi. To keep the weft from falling out taking the scarf off the loom we packed fabric strips tightly both at the beginning and the end of the scarf - I guess you could have hemstitched or something as well. . once it was cut off the loom we tied knots in the fringe up against the fabric srips - the strips remain in place through wet finihsing. It was saoked in very warm water for 30 minutes then rinse in cold water for 20 minutes. I then ran mine through a spin cycle then 30 minutes on high heat in the dryer. The fringe was scary coming out of the dryer but a pull on the knots straightened everything out. I cut off the knots, removed the fabric strips - one end at a time, knotted the fringe, evened the ends and its ready to wear. Soft and beautiful. I am ready to make another!
to add that I have posted pictures on my projects page.
