I've heard that there are some problems posting to forums and groups using IE 8 because the WYSIWYG editor is not displaying.
In searching to find the problem, I've found that people have reported this as a problem in Drupal. One of the posts suggested that refreshing the page will make the editor display.
Alternatively, I've used both Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ie.html) and Chrome (http://www.google.com/chrome/index.html?hl=en&brand=CHMB&utm_campaign=en&utm_source=en-ha-na-us-sk&utm_medium=ha), which are both free, and tend to work better than IE.
If you have had problems, please consider using one of the alternative browsers.
