Is "My Groups" function working?

Hi Claudia and Allison, I've been looking mostly on the home page (logo click) or dashboard (in orange box) to look at group communication.  When I chose the "My Groups" function (located in the orange box on the home page)

1.  I don't see activity in the new comments.  I know that stuff is going on in the groups since you can see them on the home page or the dashboard page.  Has the "My Groups" function been disabled?

2.  I did not make a note but I am 99% sure that nothing has changed there since the system started up.   The "red new" that is showing up there is the same as when the system started up.

3.  When I do click on the group name it just takes me to the first posting even if it shows something is new.  I think you have already communicated that the "red new" doesn't work in the "My Groups".

Can you confirm how much functionality now exists in the "My group" function?  OR is there a different way that "My Groups" works that we need to know.

My Groups has not been

My Groups has not been disabled. I'm going to play with it this evening on a non-admin user name. Work beckons for now!

I agree, the new button doesn't seem to be working. We'll work on this with our developers.

Thanks for letting us know!

Deb, If you click on My

Deb,

If you click on My Groups in the orange box, it takes you to your groups and although you see there are new notes, they are not clickable in that view.  The best places to go are either in the black menu bar, click on Groups & Forums, or the Dashboard in the orange box where you can click on anything that says "new" and it takes you right to the new comment.

Hope that helps with navigation.

My Groups

Hi.  I don't see where Deb's questions have been answered.  I'm wondering what is the purpose of belonging to certain groups?  Using the Dashboard, I seem to be alerted to all posts to all groups, whether I belong to them or not.  Is this correct?  If that is the case then is the only purpose of Groups to provide a kind of broad-brush sorting/grouping of posted messages?  Is there any reason to stay a member of specific groups?

Bonnie.

a vote for the group format

Hi Bonnie, I am struggling with that question also, but am waiting to see how items/systems sort out.  I am not sure if the Forum and Group structure is an inherited format from the older programming.  The Forum structure seems to work nicely with the summarized collapsed subject lines where you can scan for subjects and dive into detail where you need to.  Some of us are wondering if we should move our group to the Forum structure to get the better functionality that currently exists.  I am guessing that as they understand the programming and choices that more will be forthcoming.

I like having specialized groups because that narrows down conversations and you don't have so much mixing of subjects.  In the old system we were able to keep bibliographies, web links and tutorials as sticky subjects within the particular group.  Search and tag functions are nice but not everyone uses them equally, hence the sticky topics help capture information. The internet offers so many choices and changes so quickly it is hard to know exactly what to ask for.  Claudia and Allison have been working hard to answer questions in the order of effort and $$.  Deb Mc

Hi Bonnie and Deb, As you

Hi Bonnie and Deb,

As you have mentioned, we are learning more about the options in this new format and working closely with our developers to answer your questions and find ways to improve things.

For specific topics of broad interest, including bibliographies and tutorials, please add them to the new Tutorials forum.  We would love to see this forum being built to offer information about various subjects such as rug weaving, tapestry weaving, and specific techniques we could all find useful.

Bonnie, I will endeavor to learn more about your groups question.  I, too, am baffled by the Dashboard format and the goal to belonging to specific groups if I have access to all groups.

We could use more volunteers to help with the ins and outs and to find solutions to people's questions.
