Congratulations on a great site. Can you please explain the difference between Groups and Forums?
Cheers KokoSam
First let me say that we expect groups and forums to change significantly in the next few days; our developers are working hard to integrate them better and make them easier to use.
But the basic relationship will remain the same. A group is the parent of a forum -- so you could, as I did, create a group for Oklahoma Weavers which then would have a forum in which members could post. At the moment you can also post comments on the group page; that's confusing and will be going away. Posting will occur only in the forum, and you need to join a group in order to view or post in that group's forum.
I hope this helps make the relationship clearer.
Thanks Cynthia, yes that is clearer.
Cheers Judy
Thanks for the clarification. My group has been posting at the group site and not wanting to confuse everyone, I have kept our discussions there. Once everything is integrated, am I right that all of the posts we have made at the group site will be forwarded to the forum location?
Yes, we've told our developers to migrate all the comment threads into the forums.
Does this mean that if I set up a subscription with the content type forums, I am only going to get notifications for the forums of the groups I have joined? That would be useful, but it wasn't very clear from the user tour.
MaryMartha,
Sorry for the delay - we aren't ignoring your question. We've been trying to replicate what you might be seeing. I'm having troubles doing so, could you please explain what screen you were setting up the subscription that allowed you to set a content type to forums?
Thanks,
Alison
Is there a way to collapse the forum discussion to just headings, like on Ravelry, so that we don't see a stream of answers? Then we just click on the heading if we want to read the discussion. I and (many others -- see Rav discussion on Warped Weavers) are finding the current format confusing.
We are working on fixes and changes to groups and forums. Some should be evident today.
If you want to avoid reading through all the past comments, just click on the ones that are labelled as "new" and it will take you directly to the comments you have not yet read.
Hope that helps, at least until about 10 days from now when the groups and forums will appear on one page together.
Claudia
Hi..I know that you are up to your eyeballs getting things up and running smoothly and my request here is something petty........but if you have time.....is there any way the heading for the Backstrap Weaving Group forum on the forum page can be reposted in bold with a ''group forum'' subheading the same as all the other groups?
Continue with the great work!
Laverne
Thanks Laverne!
We've requested the fix for your group. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.
I love your projects!!! Thanks for sharing them.
Alison
Wow. I can already see lots of improvements you guys have made to Groups and Forums...the little pink envelopes indicating new messages, coloring the SAVE button red and tidying up the Main Forum page. THANKS!!
Laverne
I see my list (Double Harness) listed in groups, but all the (specific) groups are missing from Forums, am I missing something? Looking to post and reply to my group. Thanks.
Hi Janice,
Sorry for the delay. I've asked the dev team about this and am waiting for a response.
I don't think you are missing anything. I think this has to do with the transition to the improved groups and forums. I'll give you a better answer as soon as I have it.
Nice Avitar - can't wait to see some of your projects!
